
Joshua King visited Ms. Cerra's class yesterday and gave a humorous and informative presentation. He talked about his winding career journey. He explained what training is involved in becoming an athletic trainer, colleges that offer the program, adjacent programs in the athletic training "team", and salaries. He also told some stories about some of the injuries he has treated. He also spoke with her Biomed Students and they were really engaged and thoroughly enjoyed the presentation. #WeAreMiddletown #IslanderPRIDE

Today we had guest speaker Rebecca Doughty from South Coast Wind. She talked about the complexities of the major wind projects off the coast of New England. She discussed the permitting, studies and more involved in putting in a wind farm as well.
She shared many statistics, facts and other interesting information. She also explained the training involved in working in the field, as well as the 2 special programs at BCC and CCRI for specializing in off shore wind. #WeAreMiddletown #IslanderPRIDE

Yesterday's guest speaker was Scott Aksamit. He is a martial artist, and author of the book Emotional Self Defense. He discussed his path to martial arts and how it turned his life around. He discussed strategies for dealing with depression, and also shared information about the program he is starting with the State of RI. They will be beginning a program/apprenticeship in martial arts. He offered the students the opportunity to train with him through the program and an opportunity to apply for the apprenticeship. #WeAreMiddletown #IslanderPRIDE

Yesterday, Dr. Leo Harmon, DPT and Sopanha Touch PT tech came and spoke to the class. They discussed a wide range of topics related to physical therapy, including the process of becoming a physical therapist, what a PT does, a day in the life of a PT. They did a brief demo of what a PT evaluation looks like, and they even offered the opportunity to do job shadowing for senior projects. #WeAreMiddletown #IslanderPRIDE




Ms. Cerra had been having some amazing guest speakers in her class lately! Today was no different. She has 2 and here is the first: Meg DeCubellis, Professor of Apparel Design at RISD and also an apparel designer herself. She discussed her journey in the field of fashion, working in New York and all around the world-to her current business in Fall River. She also discussed teaching both High School and College level students through various programs at RISD. She had awesome props and visuals to share with the class. #WeAreMiddletown #IslanderPRIDE

MHS has been having some awesome guest speakers to Ms. Cerra's class! Today was no different...Today's guest speakers were a group of Dental Hygiene students from CCRI who spoke about the program, encouraged students to try it out, and discussed what their future jobs would entail. Ms. Cerra's class has a special guest speaker today. Ms. Jeanette Nessett, RDN, LDN, Community Outreach Specialist from Newport Hospital Outreach. She spoke about her training, some basic nutrition advice (how much sugar is in food), certification in being a Dietician/Nutritionist, and had lots of information to share with our students. #WeAreMiddletown #IslanderPRIDE




Ms. Sweet & Mr. Devolve had the opportunity along with some students to play around with our brand new zspace machines. Students will now have the opportunity to explore various careers through apps that we purchase that will allow them to learn in ar/vr technology, interactively, at the click of a button. These machines will be used to support our CTE pathways and we are providing one machine to Gaudet Middle School to continue to streamline the connection between learning there and future learning at MHS. #WeAreMiddletown #IslanderPRIDE

Today's guest speaker in Ms. Cerra's class was Dr. Charles Clarkson from the RI Audubon Society. He talked about birds, saving wildlife, and his career journey. He also talked about how important it is to do something now to save wildlife before it is too late. #WeAreMiddletown #IslanderPRIDE



Yesterday a group of students had the chance to visit BODYWORLDS in Boston. Bodyworlds: The Anatomy of Happiness interprets the latest research and findings by social scientists on how happiness is determined and presents medical findings about the impact of happiness on the body and mind. It was a great experience for the students! #WeAreMiddletown #IslanderPRIDE
