The Rhode Island Foundation, the largest and most comprehensive funder of nonprofit organizations in Rhode Island, manages more than 150 scholarship and fellowship funds. We offer assistance for middle school to post-graduate levels, certificate programs, and a variety of fields of study and interest areas. Dozens of generous individuals, family, and organizational donors have established scholarship funds with us to help students like you defray educational expenses. For students attending technical or trade schools, the Foundation offers the David L. Taton Family Vocational/Technical Scholarship Fund. This scholarship opportunity is open year-round and is reviewed on a rolling basis. In addition to general scholarship assistance, the Foundation offers a number of awards for study abroad, jewelry design, nursing, and students who are looking to achieve personal  growth through travel and public service.

MILITARY SPOUSES OF NEWPORT ACCEPTING SCHOLARSHIP

The Military Spouses of Newport (MSON) club is now accepting applications for its 2025 scholarships. Since 1985, MSON has supported the local military community with educational scholarships and is pleased to continue this tradition.

Scholarships are merit-based & awarded in three categories:

1. Graduating High School Seniors

2. Spouses of Active-Duty Military Members

3. Dependent Child (Other than a High School Senior) for post-secondary education

Scholarships are awarded for excellence in academic performance, community service, extracurricular involvement, achievements, and leadership. Guidelines for each scholarship differ, but applicants applying for the “Spouse” scholarship must be dependents of active-duty military (any branch or rank) attached to a base in Rhode Island at the time of the application submission.

All applicants must possess a current, valid military ID card of: 1) an active duty military personnel (any branch or rank) attached to a base in Rhode Island at the time of application submission; 2) retired military (with pay) member of any branch or rank previously attached to a base in Rhode Island; or 3) deceased military (while on active duty or paid retired status) member of any branch or rank previously attached to a base in Rhode Island.

• Kiwanis Club of Newport 2025 SCHOLARSHIP

***DEADLINE*** March 28, 2025-Kiwanis Scholarship 2025 Application

This is the 77th year the Kiwanis Club of Newport has offered a competitive scholarship for Aquidneck Island graduating students. It is our longest, continuous service project and was the compelling need that created the club in 1948. Please look at our Facebook page “Newport Kiwanis Club (RI).”

Depending on demonstrated financial need, family situation, and volunteerism, two scholarship awards of $3,000 will be awarded to Aquidneck Island resident public school graduating seniors to support the first semester at a college or technical education institution. The award is unrestricted and can be used for tuition, housing, books, or laboratory fees.

What to submit:

·         Must complete the two-page signed application with all required attachments: (Include a letter describing financial need, family situation, any volunteer or extra-curricular activity, any awards, and initial educational goals).

·         Must provide financial information, and proof, as described (Social Security numbers can be redacted for privacy).

·         Must supply a copy of your official transcript to verify grades (Minimum GPA of 3.0 or equivalent).

·         Must attached two (2) one page letters of recommendation that cannot be relatives.

Citizens Scholarship - Scholarship Website

We are offering a Grand Prize of $15,000 to use towards school expenses and a monthly prize of $2,500! Additionally, each quarter a student who meets the required criteria for the Building the Workforce of the Future Scholarship Prize will be eligible to win a $2,500 quarterly prize for use towards school expenses. The application is open to high school seniors along with their parents/guardians from July 1, 2024 until March, 31, 2025.

• South Coast Health Ambassador Scholarship 2025

In 2024, the Southcoast Health Ambassadors granted 28 local high school students $1,500 scholarships to pursue their advanced education in the healthcare field. These scholarships were made possible through support of dedicated donors and a match from the Southcoast Health Ambassadors. This year’s goal is to grant even more than the 28 scholarships from last year for students as we pursue our Mission: to promote the health and welfare of the communities we serve.

This year’s scholarship application is open as of January 15th, 2025. We encourage you to share this information with any of your graduating seniors who are pursuing a healthcare career in post-secondary education. • A Marvelous Wish 2025 Scholarship in memory of Marvin Washington

The Marvin Washington scholarship is open to high school graduates of '25 who have participated in a sport for four years and are pursuing further education. Applicants must complete all sections of the attached form and submit a recommendation letter from a former high school teacher and coach, along with their high school transcript. We are offering three scholarships, each worth $4,000, each, to Newport, Middletown, and Portsmouth to help ease the financial burden of college. The submission deadline is April 21st, 2025, and the three recipients will be notified and announced on our social media page on Monday May 19, 2025. We are excited to review all of the submissions. MIDDLETOWN HIGH SCHOOL GENERAL SCHOLARSHIP 2025

● The Middletown Character Scholarship awards $1000 scholarships to STUDENTS who have

demonstrated the characteristics of scholarship, leadership, community service, and exemplary citizenship.

● The Joseph Krupowicz Memorial Science Scholarship is presented in memory of Former Assistant

Superintendent Mr. Joseph Krupowicz. The $1000 award recognizes ONE student for their achievement and interest in the sciences.

● The John Clark Town Scholarship awards $1000 scholarships to STUDENTS who have demonstrated academic success and a commitment to their school and community.

● The Middletown Retired Educators Scholarships in the amounts of $500 are awarded to STUDENTS

in strong academic standing who have completed the entirety of their education within the Middletown

Public School system, and/or are the child of a current and/or former educator within the district.

● Purvis Systems Incorporated awards a $500 scholarship to ONE deserving student who plans to pursue study in the field of engineering, computer science, or public safety.

The Aquidneck Island National Police Parade will be offering (2) $1,000 dollar cash scholarships to a graduating Aquidneck Island Senior who is continuing their education in the criminal justice field. Interested person(s) should submit an essay on why the committee should award them the scholarship and what they hope to do once they graduate from college. The student is required to live on Aquidneck Island, have a 3.0 GPA, and include a copy of their transcript, and an acceptance letter into a college. • The Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship Fund

For the 24-25 academic year, Phillips’ new and renewal awards total over $4.9 million, including close to $260,000 being awarded to Rhode Island students. New award amount to $70,500 and over $199,000 to help renewing recipients from Rhode Island. Each Awardee’s scholarship is based on individual financial need.

New applicants should visit the New Applicants Page to carefully review all criteria and required application materials before beginning an application or print the "How to Apply" instructions and listing of criteria. Applications must be submitted using the online form and can be found at www.phillips-scholarship.org. The charges for tuition, fees, and food and housing is on our Cost of College List.
