About Our School
Our Mission
Middletown High School is an educational community committed to providing the academic, civic, and social tools essential for the future success of our students.
Our Teachers
In order to solve twenty-first century problems, we are going to have to think differently than we have in the past. No one understands this better than the faculty at Middletown High School. Through a lens of personal experience, teachers at MHS encourage students to think critically, take academic risks, consider multiple perspectives, and collaborate with peers en route to gaining a better understanding of their identities as global citizens, self-directed learners, and influential change agents.
Our Curriculum
Middletown High School is a four-year comprehensive learning institution that is accredited by the New England Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges and the State of Rhode Island. Servicing students grades 9-12, MHS places heavy emphasis on delivering a rigorous, engaging curriculum that challenges students both inside and outside of the classroom. Our wide variety of in class experiences are supplemented with a plethora of enrichment activities that include a robust interscholastic athletic program, rewarding community service opportunities, authentic Career and Technical Education (CTE) partnerships, and more! At Middletown High School our students don't receive knowledge... they create it.
Our Location
Situated on the beautiful Aquidneck Island in Rhode Island's scenic East Bay, Middletown is one of Rhode Island's most sought after beach communities. Less than 10 minutes from the Atlantic Ocean, Middletown is bordered by Newport and Portsmouth, RI. The town is home to a healthy mix of year round and seasonal residents. Additionally, Middletown's close proximity to Interstate 95 allows for relatively quick and easy travel to Providence, RI and Boston, MA.
Our Community
Inspired by our diverse demographic of blue, white, and black collar workers, MHS seeks to provide learning opportunities and pathways that service the needs of all students and families.
A Naval community at heart, MHS places strong emphasis on integrating our Service families into the Islander community. Spacious classrooms, accessible technology, and innovative programming ensure that all of our students have access to the content and the skills necessary to be successful after graduating from our program regardless of their personal and professional aspirations.
We also believe in creative, student-driven programming that maximizes opportunities for student success. Take for example our Freshman Academy. Best described as a collaborative organizational structure, Freshman Academy allows for the newest members of the Islander community to integrate into the building in a safe and supportive environment. Additionally, creative scheduling and varied course offerings allow for all students to have a meaningful voice in their academic programs. At MHS, we pride ourselves on taking an asset-based approach to teaching and learning that emphasizes the strengths of each student and meets learners where they are. Every student has unique gifts to share with the world... our job is to help our learners to discover those gifts while fostering a healthy appreciation for the gifts of others.
