Dear Editor,
As the Superintendent of Schools of a heavily impacted military district, I am writing to bring attention to a very special observance that holds significant meaning for our community – April as the Month of the Military Child.
In our district, we are privileged to have a diverse student body, which includes children from military families who have unique experiences and challenges. These young individuals show remarkable resilience and strength as they navigate the complexities of military life, often dealing with frequent moves and the absence of a parent due to deployments.
April has been designated as the Month of the Military Child, a time to honor the sacrifices made by military families, particularly the children. It is an opportunity for our schools and community to show our appreciation and support for these students who contribute so much to the rich tapestry of our learning environment.
Throughout the month, our schools will be organizing various activities and programs aimed at recognizing and celebrating our military-connected students. These events will not only provide a platform for these children to share their stories but also educate their peers about the military lifestyle.
We invite all community members to join us in wearing purple on “Purple Up! Day” April 17, 2024 as a visible show of support and to participate in the events we have planned. Let us come together to show our military children that their courage does not go unnoticed and that we are a community that cares.
Sincerely,
Rosemarie K. Kraeger
