Great news! The Town Council approved the track replacement project. Thanks to their support, we will now have a new track to complement the new turf field being installed by Salve Regina University this summer. We have been working with our stakeholders to coordinate end-of-year events.
Due to a very tight schedule, the work at the Gaudet complex will start on June 7, with the first phase of the track project. This start date is critical to ensuring the project gets done on schedule. The first phase of work will continue until June 19.
During this period, the turf field will be available for graduation and school sports only on weekends and after 4 p.m. during the week. Starting June 21, the turf field project will start, with a target completion date of July 18.
On July 18, the last phase of the track project will start and looks to wrap up on August 7. The complex will reopen the week of August 9 for Salve Regina University scheduled sports, MPS, and public use.
When all this work finishes, the Gaudet Athletic Complex will further cement its reputation as the premier outdoor athletic facilities not only on Aquidneck Island, but the entire region.
Not only does this include the new field turf and track, but refurbished tennis and basketball courts, the overhauled baseball field, several practice fields as well as a community playground. In the fall, new multipurpose fields on the former Starlight Drive-In property are slated to open. Thanks to the Grande Brothers for their efforts.
As work continues, we thank the public for their cooperation and understanding during this exciting work. These improvements will make the area one you can be even more proud of because #WeAreMiddletown.
